PREP AND SENIOR SCHOOL PLACEMENTS

UK independent schools are renowned for their academic prowess, history and tradition, international exposure, and all-rounded pastoral care. At JD, we provide educational advice to families who wish to send their children to their desired prep or senior schools.

Our JD Education Consultancy team has an extensive knowledge of the British independent school system. We are always ready to provide school-specific support and answer any questions you may have regarding school placements.

There are specific entry points to prep and senior schools, some of which are common, and some uncommon. Places for the latter are occasionally available depending on the number of vacancies. We assist with entry from prep at 7+ up to 11+, and senior at 11+/13+ up to 16+. Below is a list of entry points which you can refer to:

Common entry points:

  • Prep – 7+ (Year 3); 8+ (Year 4); 11+ (Year 7)

  • Senior – 11+ (Year 7 for Girls); 13+ (Year 9); 16+ (Sixth Form)

  • Uncommon entry points:

  • Prep – 9+ (Year 5); 10+ (Year 6)

  • Senior – 14+ (Year 10)

Why are entry points classified into two categories?

Common entry points are designed for general entry and families can apply for registration at any time before the deadline, as the number of places are significant. Some schools may also accept late applications, although it is essential that families come to us for an initial consultation at least one year prior to entry – the earlier the better for more prestigious schools.

On the other hand, uncommon entry points are designed for general and last-minute entries. Places may arise occasionally throughout the year, but not always, as it all depends on the number of vacancies.

Whether you opt for a long-term or short-term placement, or even a late application via a common or an uncommon entry point, our consultants are always delighted to discuss how we might be able to assist you. We work with many leading independent boarding and day schools across the UK, and place emphasis on developing close contacts with admissions departments, meaning that we are constantly up-to-date with the latest information and admissions criteria for many schools.
